We were kindly invited by the Shanghai Women’s Federation to visit U Furniture Gallery on January 23rd, 2017.
The gallery has a huge space with original furniture. On the second floor we were given an interesting presentation of the Incense Ceremony tradition.
We also got to make our own incense. By mixing different perfumed ingredients and designing the mixture we were thaught to creat small incense candles. Mysterious smells were all over the place and we had a great fun!
Once again dear Mrs. Peichin had organized an impressive tour for us at the Columbian Country Club (CCC) situated at West Yanan Road No. 1262. The event was hosted by Vanke Group, a leading real estate company in China.
The CCC construction started in 1923. It used to be an American social and recreation club set on five acres of grounds. It featured tennis courts, an amazing huge outdoor swimming pool with mosaic surrounding arcade, and a squash court.
A significant number of members gathered at the Italian Restaurant and pizzeria Mammamia in the French Concession to offer a baby shower to Paola Mancero, wife of the Consul General of Uruguay. Her much expected baby boy Thiago is due to be delivered in mid January.
The members and the mother-to-be had a very nice lunch in the veranda of the restaurant, they talked about their experiences with babies and offered very useful presents for the mother and the baby. Continue reading
CSS members had a full morning as they met in the Chang Feng district main officers for a presentation of this newly developed area. We had a bus tour of the district and stopped off at the Spark Museum which houses thousands of matchbox covers donated from a private collector. It is close to the sight of a former match factory that was based by the creek. We then took a boat cruise along the creek with a commentary on interesting areas and refreshments. This used to be an important busy trading waterway. At the end of the cruise we visited the M50 art district and had a whirlwind tour of some of the galleries and latest exhibitions of diverse talent. It was a very interesting morning to see parts of Shanghai that we may not be aware of.
Doctor Trina Lion from Humanity Hospital gave an interesting lecture about the importance of be aware of our daily unhealthy habits, and make a conscious commitment to change them. Also she talked about the importance of taking care of our emotional wellbeing. We learned and practice some breathing exercises to help to cope with daily stress.
Several CSS members and their families attended the Hilton Hotel’s annual festivities to see the official lighting of the Christmas tree and train. Guests had the chance to make a wish on the Christmas wish ball and contribute to a charitable cause.
