A significant number of members gathered at the Italian Restaurant and pizzeria Mammamia in the French Concession to offer a baby shower to Paola Mancero, wife of the Consul General of Uruguay. Her much expected baby boy Thiago is due to be delivered in mid January.
The members and the mother-to-be had a very nice lunch in the veranda of the restaurant, they talked about their experiences with babies and offered very useful presents for the mother and the baby. Continue reading
During the Second World War 30,000 Jews sought their refugee in Shanghai where they survived with the help of the Shanghainese people. The Foreign Ministry and the Hongkou District invited us to visit the Jewish Refugees Museum and the former Jewish district, called “Little Vienna”. Despite little means, the fled Jewish managed to set up schools and shops for their daily needs. The Sasoon family, a rich Shanghainese-Jewish family was kind enough to donate a synagogue “Ohel Moshe” for the community to come together. Continue reading
The Capsule Gallery opened its doors only a month ago. It is located in the heart of the historical Shanghai district of the Former French Concession.
The contemporary art gallery is a serene, intimate and luxurious space where one can encounter artwork by both emerging and well-established international artists.

On 2 November 2016 Mrs Pei-chin “Peipei” He kindly organized for CSS members to pay a visit to the beautiful Aurora Museum.
We were warmly received by Peipei’s good friend, Mrs. Joy Lai, the museum director and her staff. The museum is located along the Huangpu river on the Pudong side with the most breathtaking view!
It is a small, quite and beautifully designed museum. So immaculate and serene, this museum displays a private collection of very precious and unique items. Continue reading
On 25 October 2016 we were kindly invited by Mrs Peichin He, Spouse of the Deputy Consul General of Germany to join her on a walk to the wet market. We gathered a little earlier than usual and went into the nicely arranged market. We made a big tour around while Peipei was teaching us so many interesting things about Chinese food and its flavours, what and from whom to buy meat, seafood, eggs, tofu, fresh vegetables and so on. Wednesday 19 October 2016 became an elegant affair as CSS gathered at the impressively picturesque German Residence at the generous invitation of Mrs Gerlind Rothen, Spouse of the German CG in Shanghai. The rain couldn’t dampen our spirits as well as our hostesses’ as she went out of her way to make the afternoon a memorable one!
